Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho has identified Newcastle United as his best chance of another job in England and is keen on succeeding Eddie Howe, according to the Guardian.

The Portuguese met Newcastle’s chairman, Yasir al-Rumayyan, at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in a social capacity in March this year and has maintained the connection since.

The 61-year-old has asked intermediaries to keep him abreast of any developments at St James Park, but Howe has no plans of leaving the club anytime soon.

However, Newcastle are in 11th place in the Premier League table after ten games, which is not good enough for the owners and things must improve.

Mourinho has won eight league titles since starting his managerial career in 2000, winning with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid.

He has also won two Champions League and once worked as a translator for former Newcastle manager Bobby Robson before becoming his assistant manager at three clubs.

He has often talked about his connection to the Magpies due to Robson.

Despite his achievements and huge experience in the game, appointing Mourinho would be a huge mistake if Al-Rumayyan is tempted.

His last league title success was in 2015, and there is a reason why he was sacked in his last four jobs before he headed to the Super Lig.

Howe has impressed in his three years at Newcastle. If they ever look to replace him, they must look beyond Mourinho and get someone capable of taking them to the next level.
