Moise Kean has quashed speculation about a move to Manchester United or the Saudi Pro League, instead reaffirming his committment to Fiorentina.
United are actively searching for reinforcements up front and see Kean as a player who could help solve their goalscoring issues.
The Italy international had a tough stint in the Premier League with Everton, followed by similarly challenging spells at Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain. However, he now appears to have put those struggles firmly behind him.
Fiorentina snapped him up last summer for just €13m, a bargain that now seems like a masterstroke. He highlighted his potential last season by scoring 25 goals in 44 games, with 19 in 32 Serie A appearances, which made him Serie A’s second-highest scorer.
A report stated that United have been making frequent checks on the player, who is believed to be open to joining them.
He is protected by a €52m release clause, which expires on Tuesday. After that, Fiorentina can demand whatever they want for him.
In addition to United, Saudi Pro League clubs Al-Hilal and Al-Qadsiah were also mentioned to be interested parties in Kean.
But, it was claimed that he turned them both down as he wants to continue playing in Europe. Now, it seems that Kean has also rejected the chance to move to United.
During a team presentation at Viola Park on Monday, Keane came out and pledged his allegiance to Fiorentina.
He said [as quoted by Calciomercato], “I’m very motivated to move forward.”
“Fiorentina has always supported me, now it’s good to return with renewed motivation to help Fiorentina.”
The club were preparing to hand the 25-year-old a fresh deal, potentially with a much larger release clause or none whatsoever, in an effort to fend off interest from the likes of United. They can now move forward with that strategy without hesitation.
