In the realm of football, certain performances defy belief. Mohamed Salah’s 2024-25 Premier League season is one such spectacle, where numbers align with artistry to place him alongside the greatest ever. At 32, Salah is delivering at a level so extraordinary that comparisons to peak Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo feel entirely justified. Yet, the world seems dangerously close to normalising it.
Salah’s goal and assist per 90 minutes (G+A/90) stands at a staggering 1.70, as highlighted in the statistics. To contextualise, no player in Premier League history has achieved such output. Erling Haaland, the closest in recent memory, managed 1.43 in 2022-23, while Sergio Agüero and Luis Suárez posted 1.35 and 1.31, respectively, during their finest campaigns. Even Salah’s own brilliance in the 2017-18 season—where he notched 1.29 G+A/90—is eclipsed by his current run.
This is not your standard per-90 metric. Salah isn’t just racking up goals and assists; he’s creating decisive moments every 53 minutes, week in and week out. Such consistency has propelled Liverpool into the upper echelons of the Premier League table.
It’s not just the per-90 numbers that highlight Salah’s dominance. His contribution of 17 goals and 13 assists in just 18 matches brings his tally to 30 goal involvements—an achievement that leaves even seasoned statisticians in awe. To put this into perspective, the all-time record for goal involvements in a single Premier League season is 47, held jointly by Alan Shearer and Andy Cole. Salah is well on pace to obliterate this benchmark, with over half the season still remaining.

Additionally, Salah has set a new record for games in which a player has scored and assisted in the same match during a Premier League season. His eight such games already surpass the competition’s history books—and we haven’t even reached January.
Age often marks the twilight of an athlete’s peak, yet Salah is proving the exception to this rule. At 32, his ability to combine physical explosiveness with technical finesse remains unparalleled. A prime example came in his recent assist to Diogo Jota, where Salah showcased a vintage dribble, bypassing defenders with ease before delivering the decisive pass. It’s the kind of play that echoes his earlier career highs, emphasising that his legs still hold the magic of a younger man.
If Salah continues at this pace we’ll be talking about a new level, never mind being placed alongside Premier League greats like Shearer, Thierry Henry and others. He’s a genuine chance to go above them. His ability to influence games, not just with goals but with creative interplay, makes him a complete forward—an anomaly in modern football. These aren’t just statistics; they’re markers of a player operating in rarefied air.
In an era where Messi and Ronaldo are often heralded as untouchable, Salah’s sustained excellence demands recognition. His record-breaking feats should be celebrated, not merely as a testament to his brilliance but as a reminder that greatness is happening before our eyes.
