Daniel Maldini left AC Milan on a permanent basis in the summer, signing a contract with Monza, and he has since done very well. In fact, Atalanta have now admitted that they are following the player.

Maldini spent last season on loan at Empoli as well as Monza, cutting his loan spell at the former short to join the latter. For Adriano Galliani’s side, the attacking midfielder scored four goals and one assist, resulting in negotiations over a permanent deal between Monza and Milan.

Given the good relations between the clubs, Maldini was allowed to leave for free although the Rossoneri included a 50% resale clause in the contract. Since then, the player has continued to grow and recently earned his first call-up to the Italian national team.

Speaking ahead of the game between Atalanta and Verona last night, as transcribed by MilanNews, the club CEO Luca Percassi was asked about Maldini. He admitted that it’s a player that a club like the Bergamo side ‘must follow’.

“He is a player with enormous talent, son of a very prestigious family. A player that Atalanta must follow. Let’s hope that in the next match [Atalanta-Monza], he doesn’t do too well. We are certainly monitoring him,” he stated.
