Milan have joined the race for Luka Modric, who’ll depart Real Madrid as a free agent and has offers from all over the world. He’ll take his time and will play in the Club World Cup with Los Galacticos, Matteo Moretto reports (via SOSFanta).
New Rossoneri director Igli Tare has discussed the possibility internally. The 39-year-old will ponder all the landing spots with his family. He’s been in Spain since 2012 after four years with Tottenham, racking up nearly 600 appearances. He scored 43 times and tallied 95 assists. Despite his age, he avoided injuries and starred in 60 matches, coming off the bench in half of them, in the past campaign. He put his name in the stat-sheet on 13 occasions, considering 4 goals and 9 helpers.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Modric is a Milan fan as Zvonimir Boban is one of his idols. His personal demands aren’t rich. Moreover, he prefers transferring to a competitive league to prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
On the other hand, the Rossoneri won’t play in Europe next season. While that could help him physically, it’d be a step down relative to what he’s accustomed to. He has won the Champions League six times. He was close to moving to San Siro, but to Inter, in 2018.
It’d be a short-term addition, but such a signing would be the harbinger of a new MO, and that Tare and Massimiliano Allegri can really pull the strings on the transfer market. Even though his minutes would have to be managed, their midfield could use his technique, leadership, and playmaking if it lost Tijjani Reijnders.
