Football League World looks at the latest injury concerns for Michael Carrick heading into their trip to the Hawthorns

Middlesbrough will be looking to complete consecutive victories when they travel to league leaders West Bromwich Albion for Tuesday evening's showdown in the EFL Championship.

It has been a typically inconsistent start to the new season for Middlesbrough, who have won three, drawn two and lost two of their opening seven encounters.

However, they will be fuelled by confidence heading to the Hawthorns following Saturday afternoon's routine 2-0 home victory over Stoke City, which was inspired by goals either side of the interval from Ben Doak and Hayden Hackney.

Middlesbrough have tended to dominate the majority of their matches so far, although the conversion of dominance to goals has been a slight concern among supporters.

However, they were incisive against the Potters and will hope for much of the same at West Brom, who are top of the league but faced their first defeat of the season away to Sheffield Wednesday on the weekend.

Michael Carrick will assess Matt Clarke and Tommy Conway ahead of West Brom match

Boro boss Michael Carrick offered a refreshing injury update following the victory over Stoke, confirming that neither Matt Clarke or Tommy Conway will be out with long-term setbacks.

Carrick was forced to play Luke Ayling in central defence due to the absence of Clarke, with Anfernee Dijksteel coming back in to play on the right side of the backline.

Meanwhile, Riley McGree came in for summer signing Conway and made an impact on the right-wing, setting up Hackney's strike seventeen minutes from full-time.

Ahead of the West Brom match, Carrick confirmed that the duo were absent from Stoke's trip to the Riverside Stadium due to a knock and a niggle respectively, but they will be assessed for contention tomorrow night.

said Carrick.

"Tommy in training this week picked up a bit of a niggle. Again, we’ll have to see with that.

"Neither were able to play today but we’ll see if they’re able to play on Tuesday or Saturday [away to Watford]. We’re not quite sure yet, but it’s not long-term for either.

"At the very latest, after the international break, but they’re both pushing before then."

Rav Van den Berg could start for Middlesbrough against West Brom

Middlesbrough and Carrick have been handed a potential boost for their visit of the West Midlands, where Rav van den Berg could make his first start in more than a month.

The 20-year-old defender has not started since Boro's 1-0 defeat at Derby County in the second matchweek of the new season and missed the last five matches with a leg injury before coming on for the final 20 minutes against Stoke.

Having made it through the remainder of the fixture unscathed, Van den Berg will now be looking to feature from the first whistle against West Brom and will be assessed accordingly.

"Having Rav back was a real plus. I thought the back four did really well anyway as a unit,"added Carrick.

"But to get Rav back, particularly at that stage of the game when we had a few set-plays to defend, was great. He gets a feel for it again, and gets his distances and his rhythm back.

"That’s a big plus for us. We'll have to see [if he’s fit enough to start on Tuesday].
