Javier Aguirre's side claimed a second consecutive comeback victory over Honduras in the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals, delivering a statement win in Toluca.
Goals from Raúl Jiménez, Henry Martín and Jorge Sánchez secured the win after Mexico lost the first leg 2-0 in Honduras.
The two sides met at the same stage of the competition in 2023 where Honduras won the opening clash by the same scoreline before Mexico levelled the aggregate score at the Estadio Azteca before winning the tie via a penalty shootout.
Following the win at the Estadio Nemesio Diez in Toluca, Mexico have been drawn to face Canada at the SoFi Stadium in California on Thursday 20th March 2025.
These two teams faced off during the September international break in Javier Aguirre's second match as Mexico’s head coach since his summer return. The match ended in a lacklustre 0-0 draw, with neither side making a significant impact. Their previous encounter came in November 2021, ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where both teams ultimately qualified. On that occasion, Canada claimed a 2-1 victory, with Cyle Larin netting a brace before Héctor Herrera scored a late consolation goal for El Tri.
In the other semifinal, reigning champions the United States will face Panama for a place in the final. The match is set to take place at SoFi Stadium on Thursday, March 20, 2025.
