Mesut Özil admits ‘I see a lot of myself’ in Real Madrid star | OneFootball

Ex-Real Madrid star Mesut Özil has this weekend likened a current member of Los Blancos’ ranks to himself.

The player in question? Arda Güler.

Youngster Güler has of course endured something of a hit-and-miss campaign to date in Spain’s capital.

Though he has seen an uptick in game-time compared to his debut term in La Liga, the 19-year-old remains some way down the pecking order in Carlo Ancelotti’s attacking ranks.

All told, Güler has racked up 27 appearances across all competitions, notching a respectable three goals and five assists along the way.

Speaking to the media this weekend, the aforementioned Mesut Özil was therefore drawn once more on the talents boasted by his former Fenerbahçe teammate.

And the one-time Blancos standout, during an interview with TRT Spor, went on to admit that he sees many of the same traits in Güler as himself:

“I see a lot of myself in Arda Güler. We need to protect talents like him.”
