Kylian Mbappe insists he likes being in a position where he is criticised because it motivates him to prove people wrong.

It comes after his former club Paris-St Germain won their first ever Champions League title in their first season without Mbappe.

The Frenchman left last summer to join Real Madrid, and did not win a major trophy in his first campaign with the Spanish giants.

And asked about PSG winning the Champions League following his exit, and his failure to win with Real Madrid this season, Mbappe responded: “Of course, we missed out on the major titles. This year, we learned a lot.

“You said PSG won the Champions League without me, it’s a good thing. I’m not affected by it. We have challenges throughout our career. I’m in the eye of the tiger and I like that. I always like holding this type of position.

“It’s up to me to work on it, to curb the trend and I have been able to go my own way. It’s important to work, to make progress and hopefully next year win all these titles. Then maybe you will not ask me anymore.”

Asked if he would have liked to stay at PSG for one more year in hindsight, Mbappe said: “I don’t think that I left PSG too soon. My story with PSG was over, it needed to come to an end.

“That is the reason why I am not bitter about it at all. I think I had reached the end of the road and when you do so, you cannot be bitter and you cannot have any regrets.

“I did try everything. I gave it my all and it was just destiny. It had to take place.

“I was very happy because they deserved it. There was so many years where it was hard. I was part of it, I’ve gone through all the steps of the Champions League. I know full well what I am talking about.

“They were the best team on the field. 5-0 in a final, I don’t remember a final in the Champions League or World Cup (like that).

“This is something they deserve and this is the team that needs to be beaten.”
