Matěj Kovář heading for Leverkusen exit?

According to reports coming from Sky Germany and Sky Italy respectively, it appears time in Leverkusen may have already run out for Matej Kovář - with a reported transfer progressing towards advanced stages despite not playing a single minute under new boss Erik Ten Hag.

The news shouldn’t be too surprising as this isn’t the first time the 25-year-old’s future has been called into question, news previously broke in March that the Leverkusen hierarchy were happy to allow Kovář to move on in the summer.

This was further amplified when the club announced the arrival of Mark Flekken from Brentford in June, all but confirming Ten Hag’s plans for the No.1 spot. Flekken’s arrival would see Kovář competing for the backup spot with Lukas Hradecky, something that is not believed to be of interest to either player at this moment in time.

Despite being under contract until 2027, the Czech international is supposedly pushing for a move now as he looks to secure his long-term future and cement his spot in the national team.

Although no official bids have been made as of yet, it is being suggested that PSV Eindhoven are showing a strong interest as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options following the departure of Walter Benitez to the Premier League.

The fee that Kovář - who made 15 appearances for Leverkusen across all competitions last season - is likely to command remains yet to be seen as no official price tag has been confirmed.

Should a transfer materialise, the Bundesliga runners-up would at least try to recoup the €5m paid to Manchester United in 2023.
