Josep Martinez wasn’t asked to intervene much in his Serie A debut with Inter against his former team Genoa. The shot-stopper is poised for bigger tests in the upcoming clashes with Lazio in the Coppa Italia and Napoli.
His agent Sergio Barila spoke to Tuttomercatoweb.
“I’m not surprised because I know him very well. When we decided to sign with the Nerazzurri, we knew it would be a very important step for his career and that he was ready for it. We’ve always tried to make the best decisions for his present and future. Joining a top team that aims to win at the highest level was a challenge, but we trusted him. I knew his physical, technical, and mental abilities very well. He was completely up to the task.”
Josep Martinez had to wait for a long time to make his first start with Inter.
“He stayed ready from day one. He’s a professional. We have to respect the decisions by the coach. You never know when your time might come in football. A player just has to work hard and be patient, even more so in his role.”
Inter manager Simone Inzaghi billed Josep Martinez as the future of Inter at the position.
“The gaffer and the front office will decide what’s best for the team. My opinion is that he’ll be a dependable goalkeeper for any top-notch side. His colleagues must be respected too. We leave the choice up to the boss. He’ll always be prepared when needed.”
