Olympique Marseille have made a substantial bid for Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood, surpassing the offer made by Lazio.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the French club is confident in securing the deal for the talented forward, who spent last season on loan at Getafe in La Liga.

Marseille, one of the most active clubs in the early days of this summer’s transfer market, has aggressively pursued Greenwood to bolster their attacking options.

The French side’s bid, reportedly higher than that of Lazio’s twenty million euros, reflects their determination to bring the young Englishman to Ligue 1.

Greenwood, known for his versatility and finishing prowess, would add significant firepower to Roberto De Zerbi’s squad.

United’s academy product had a promising loan spell in Spain, where he showcased his potential and improved his game under different tactical setups.

The move to Marseille could offer Greenwood a fresh start and an opportunity to regain his best form in a new league.

With the player’s future at Old Trafford still uncertain, a permanent move could be beneficial for all parties involved.

Marseille’s substantial offer could provide United with additional funds to reinvest in their squad, particularly as they look to strengthen other areas ahead of the new season.

Moreover, the potential sale of Greenwood aligns with United’s strategy of balancing the squad and ensuring that only those who fit Erik ten Hag’s long-term vision remain at the club.

Lazio president Claudio Lotito remains hopeful of securing Greenwood, despite stiff competition from Marseille and other European clubs.

United are keen to finalise Greenwood’s sale before Monday’s meeting, which adds urgency to the situation.

Lotito had previously made a substantial offer of twenty million euros, including 50% of any future resale value, which brings him close to United’s £30 million asking price.

His persistence is driven by his desire to make a significant market coup, particularly following the controversial decision to appoint Baroni after Igor Tudor’s departure.

Greenwood is viewed as the ideal signing to regain favour with Lazio fans, especially since Lotito almost secured the player when he was a market outcast last September.

However, if United’s quick resolution goal opens the door to a potential discount, Lotito is prepared to act swiftly.

This week is crucial, with new contact between the clubs anticipated.

As a backup plan, Lotito also evaluates a move for Gudmundsson, ensuring Lazio have alternative options should the Greenwood deal fall through.
