Inter President Beppe Marotta insists there has been ‘no request’ from Bayern Munich for Hakan Calhanoglu, while the only other new signing will be a goalkeeper, ruling out Albert Gudmundsson.

The former general manager was promoted to the role of President when Suning lost control of the club to Oaktree for failing to repay a loan.

Despite that situation, Marotta assures Sky Sport Italia that there will be no fire sale at San Siro this summer.

“We survive by taking care of the balance sheet and have no need to sell. We acted early, thanks also to the work of Piero Ausilio and Dario Baccin. As you know, we already signed the contracts with Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi, so the team is competitive.

“Now we need to finalise a new goalkeeper, then the team is ready to go. Obviously, we must always leave room for the unexpected, but I don’t think anything will happen.”

Zielinski and Taremi are both free agents, so arrive with no additional cost for the club that is trying to cut its record debts.

Marotta proud to keep Calhanoglu at Inter

There were strong reports in Germany and Turkey that Bayern Munich had approached Calhanoglu, but he assured during EURO 2024 that he had no intention of leaving Inter.

“To be honest, we have not received any request, but we welcome Calhanoglu’s statement. We are proud that he has this great sense of belonging.”

Marotta also warns Inter are not going to enter the race for Genoa forward Albert Gudmundsson, despite being considered the favourites.

“We all know that Gudmundsson is a good player, but our attack is fine as it is. We are in negotiations for a goalkeeper.”

That is going to be Genoa’s Spanish shot-stopper Josep Martinez, with an agreement close for circa €15m including bonuses.
