Rashford was part of 10 first team squad members that took part in the session, which was supported by several academy stars.

Kobbie Mainoo was part of the group, as were Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw and Lenny Yoro, who are also returning from injuries – all timely boosts for Amorim.

Rashford in particular is in desperate need of a shot in the arm with his alarming performance levels of late leaving his future at the club in doubt.

The United forward has struggled for any kind of form over the last year-and-a-half and will be hoping his new coach will get him back to his best.

United’s struggles in front of goal were a huge reason in the need for a change in dug out with the team’s profligacy seriously hampering Ten Hag’s progress.

No doubt Rashford possesses the quality to turn his poor form around but his body language and efforts on the pitch will have to improve dramatically to survive under Amorim.

With the new coach reportedly in no mood to waver from his tried and trusted 3-4-3 formation there is likely to be a change in role for Rashford.

However, the local lad has clearly been left impressed by early impressions of Amorim and will be desperate to get off to a good start against Ipswich Town at the weekend.

Given his qualities and time with the manager this week, it would be a surprise not to see Rashford in Amorim’s first XI on Sunday, it’s then over to the underperforming star to grasp the opportunity and mark the occasion with a strong performance to get the new regime up-and-running with a win.
