Marcus Rashford is yet to win the confidence of his teammates at Barcelona.
Rashford got his much-awaited move to Camp Nou earlier this summer after enjoying an impressive loan stint at Aston Villa last season.
Ruben Amorim had no plans to reinstate him into the first team. As such, Manchester United agreed to loan him out to Barcelona.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a promising pre-season with his new club. After watching him in training, Flick and his staff are reportedly convinced the Englishman can perform as a number nine, as the ageing Robert Lewandowski is unlikely to start every game.
Rashford made his competitive debut for the Blaugrana over the weekend, replacing Ferran Torres in the second half in his side’s 3-0 win.
The England international showed a lot of positive signs and combined well with Raphinha. However, there are still question marks over his mentality at the club.
According to a report in Spain, as relayed by Football365, there are “alarm bells” at Barcelona over Rashford, as figures in the dressing room fear he is the “new Joao Felix.”
Felix spent the 2023/24 campaign at Barca on loan from Atletico Madrid before joining Chelsea. He has now moved to Saudi Arabia to play for Al-Nassr.
The Portuguese earned plaudits for his technical prowess and link-up play at Barcelona, but he “ended up leaving without making a mark due to his lack of commitment and consistency on the pitch.”
United will hope Rashford’s temporary spell in La Liga goes well, as they handed Barcelona a buy option worth around £30m.
The defending La Liga champions are not paying any loan fee for the season-long deal. However, their decision to cover his salary in full helped United save around £14m.
As per the Manchester Evening News, this agreement played a role in United’s pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, allowing the Red Devils to meet RB Leipzig’s financial demands.
