Defender Marc Guehi is set to be the subject of a transfer tussle next summer when he becomes a free agent after the expiration of his contract at Crystal Palace.
Guehi was on the verge of joining Liverpool in the summer, but Palace pulled the plug on the deal.
According to journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool are still pushing to sign Guehi on a free transfer next summer but face serious competition.
Barcelona and Bayern Munich are also interested in him. Bayern could step up their interest if Dayot Upamecano or Kim Min-jae leaves the club.
However, the 25-year-old is holding out on a move to Real Madrid, who are expected to be in the market for a new centre-back next summer.
With Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba’s contracts expiring next summer, Madrid are already on the lookout for a new centre-back.
They are keeping tabs on Guehi but also have other targets, including Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate.
AC Milan and Juventus have also been linked with Guehi, but a move to Serie A is unlikely.
Guehi has put aside the disappointment in not securing a move to Liverpool and played a key role in Palace’s brilliant start to the season.
The Chelsea academy product is an excellent ball-playing defender, adept at fulfilling his defensive responsibilities.
He can play in a two-man or a three-man defence, making him very adaptable.
Guehi has demonstrated his quality at Palace, and he should be able to replicate his performances at a bigger club.
