Former Manchester City forward Cole Palmer has helped Marc Cucurella resolve an ongoing dispute with Erling Haaland.

The Chelsea and Spain full-back faced backlash in the aftermath of celebrating European Championship success at an event during the summer, after Cucurella bizarrely referenced Erling Haaland within a chant about himself.

Cucurella had taken aim at Haaland by including the 24-year-old’s name in a song which quickly gained traction online, and subsequently sparked a war of words at Stamford Bridge last month.

Haaland scored during Manchester City’s 0-2 win over Chelsea in west London in the Premier League in August, and also netted a hat-trick against Enzo Maresca’s side during a pre-season friendly in the United States.

The 24-year-old rolled Manchester City into the lead in the 18th minute at Stamford Bridge, fending off Cucurella to break the deadlock and mark his 100th appearance for the Sky Blues with his 91st goal.

The striker, who has now moved to 97 goals after successive hat-tricks against both Ipswich Town and West Ham, hit back at Cucurella after that match, saying: “He is a funny man. Last season he asked for my shirt. And this summer he sings a song about me.”

Cucurella is set to feature for Spain for the first time since winning the European Championship in July, and has revealed that he has employed Cole Palmer to help diffuse the situation with Haaland.

The Spaniard has played down any talk of a feud between himself and the Norwegian, saying: “In England they took it out of context, I don’t think he knew either. He read what they said and took it a little personally. Nowadays people take things very personal. Palmer asked him about me and it ended.”

Cucurella could have potentially become a teammate of Haaland’s previously, with Manchester City having been heavily linked with the full-back when he was at Brighton.
