Reports on Tuesday suggest that former Italy national team head coach Roberto Mancini could be one of the options to replace Milan coach Paulo Fonseca should the club decide to cut ties with their current head coach in the future.

According to reports from Calciomercato.com, Mancini and Maurizio Sarri are the two most likely options to come to San Siro in the event that Fonseca leaves at any stage this season. Massimiliano Allegri has also been suggested, but Tuesday’s report indicates that he is a less likely option for the Rossoneri.

Mancini is the latest name to appear on the list. He has been available since leaving his position as head coach of the Saudi Arabia national team in October.

Mancini has also been linked with a move to Roma to replace Claudio Ranieri once he transitions into his directorship role at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Where Milan and Fonseca stand

Milan are in a precarious position in the Serie A standings. Following a 0-0 draw at home against Genoa on Sunday, the team are now 14 points off the top of the table and eight points away from the top four after 15 matches.

Fonseca’s job is not under any immediate threat according to recent reports, but Calciomercato.com claims that the situation could change should Milan fail to record a positive against Hellas Verona on Friday.

The mood around San Siro has soured after the 0-0 draw with Milan and the slightly fortunate 2-1 victory over Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League on Wednesday, as fans have begun to protest against the running of the club.
