In a recent report, journalists Danny Rust and Dean Jones mentioned that Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to land Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres this summer. It is understood that the Red Devils are eager to secure the services of the Swedish striker this off-season.
Gyokeres enjoyed an outstanding campaign at the Portuguese club as he was responsible for putting in a lot of match-winning displays for them in the final third. The Swedish sensation banged in 54 goals and grabbed 13 assists in 52 matches for Sporting last season across all fronts.
The 27-year-old deserves a lot of credit for averaging 4.08 shots per 90 minutes in Liga Portugal. He also kept 52% of his attempts on target. However, Gyokeres needs to work on improving his ball distribution after completing just 71.4% of his attempted passes in the Portuguese top tier (stats via fbref.com).
Gyokeres is under contract at the Portuguese club until the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for Man United to land him in this transfer window.

Gyokeres can engineer some space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and has proven himself to be a lethal finisher in Portuguese football. The Swedish talent is also quite clever with his movements in and around the opponent’s penalty area.
Gyokeres knows English football well from his time at Coventry City and Brighton and Hove Albion. Hence, he won’t take much time to adjust to life at Man United.
The Swedish centre-forward would add plenty of goals to Ruben Amorim’s attack. He is more than capable of securing a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club next season.
At 27, Gyokeres is about to enter his prime which makes him a worthy target for the Red Devils to pursue this summer. With all things considered, Man United should focus on trying everything they can to get the Swedish goal-getter on board as he could help them get back to challenging for a top-four spot in the Premier League over the next few years.
