Manchester United are still keen on signing RB Leipzig midfielder Xavi Simons.
The player, currently on loan from Paris Saint-Germain, showcased his brilliance yesterday, scoring twice against Werder Bremen, reaffirming his elite talent and recovery from injury.
Simons has quickly become a pivotal figure for Leipzig, adapting seamlessly after returning from an ankle injury that sidelined him in October.
The former Barcelona youth product demonstrated his flair and scoring ability in his recent outing, fueling speculation about his future amid mounting interest from top clubs.
Expectations for Simons were high after his standout 2022/23 season, which saw him score ten goals and have fifteen assists in 43 appearances.
However, recurring physical setbacks have hindered his ability to replicate such form consistently this term.
Despite this, he has already netted five goals and provided two assists.
Simons is on his second loan spell at Leipzig from PSG, where his opportunities under manager Luis Enrique appear limited.
According to Spanish outlet, Sport, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are reportedly keen on securing his signature.
Leipzig are eager to retain the Dutchman beyond his current loan, with the club reportedly prepared to make a concerted effort to sign him permanently.
However, PSG have shown a willingness to transfer the player while considering other options for him.
Simons’ availability aligns with United’s ongoing search for young, dynamic talents capable of elevating their midfield.
Leipzig’s pursuit of a permanent deal represents a significant obstacle, with the Bundesliga side determined to keep Simons following his impactful performances.
