Manchester United are targeting Brighton and Hove Albion forward Evan Ferguson amid uncertainty over Marcus Rashford’s future, as per reports.
Rashford is under the spotlight heading into Sunday’s Manchester derby, as multiple reports over the last few days have suggested the England forward is not part of Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans and the Red Devils are willing to listen to offers for their star academy graduate.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the 27-year-old has “had enough” at Old Trafford amid constant scrutiny.
However, as things stand, Rashford is still the most reliable attacking option at Amorim’s disposal and it is unlikely United would let him leave without exploring the market for his potential replacement. In that regard, a report from Spain has shed light on the club’s plans.
According to Fichajes, Ferguson’s “name has emerged as a priority” as United look for “strong” alternatives to reinforce their attack.
The Brighton sensation is considered one of the best young strikers in the Premier League, owing to his physicality and movement in and around the penalty area. His versatility in attack has also caught the attention of many.
The 20-year-old Irish talent enjoyed his breakthrough under Roberto De Zerbi. However, the Italian’s departure appears to have impacted his progress, as he has struggled to score this season consistently.
Under new manager Fabian Hurzeler, Ferguson has just one goal to his name in 10 Premier League appearances this term.
Regardless, his potential is still admired, making him an “attractive profile” for United’s project.
It is understood that it is not going to be easy to secure his signature, as Brighton value their number 28 at around £60 million. He is contracted to the club until the summer of 2029.
The Spanish outlet adds that United are also considering other attacking options, including Sporting CP star Viktor Gyökeres.
The Sweden international, who was once on Brighton’s books, has already played under Amorim. Currently, he seems to be a more suitable signing for the Mancunian giants, owing to his prolific form in the Liga Portugal as well as the Champions League.
