Manchester United have cut ticket prices in an attempt to sell Old Trafford out for their upcoming derby clash with Manchester City.

Ruben Amorim’s side host their rivals on Sunday as they look to complete an unlikely double, after coming from behind in the final minutes to snatch a stunning comeback win at the Etihad Stadium in December.

However, United have been forced into unusual measures to ensure a capacity crown is in attendance this week.

The club were criticised in November for raising ticket prices for members to a minimum of £66, while also removing concessions for children and supporters over the age of 65.

The Sun report that United were unable to sell out the Manchester derby at those prices, and so members have instead been able to buy tickets for £40, and concessions were set at £25.

Upcoming home matches in the Premier League are also said to be available to members for less than the £66 price previously set.

Fan protests are expected to take place at Old Trafford on Sunday, as sections of supporters voice their frustration with the club’s ownership.

It was confirmed by this month that season ticket prices will rise by 5% at Old Trafford next season, with game categorisation also introduced to mean the highest profile fixtures will cost more.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe argued that those measures were necessary, having revealed the club could have gone bust by the end of the year.

The 1958, a United fans’ group, organised a protest ahead of the draw with Arsenal earlier this month, as thousands participated in a march ahead of kick-off.

Against City, The 1958 have encouraged supporters to stage a sit-in after the match.

Chris Haymes, a member of the group, said: "We're going to get people to sit in their seats.

"MUST (Manchester United Supporters Trust) did a flash survey and they reckon there's going to be about 7,000 concessions, OAP people, who are not going to renew their season tickets.

"So, they're trying to price them out of their seats, so we're going to tell you to sit in your seat, stay in your seat. That's your seat that you paid for."
