Sporting CP will be desperately trying to hold on to their best players following the departure of manager Ruben Amorim.

Amorim has built a successful team in Lisbon and several of their players are being linked with Premier League moves following the coach’s switch to Manchester United.

Viktor Gyokeres is the man attracting the most attention due to his goals for Sporting over the past two seasons. The Swede’s hat-trick against Man City in the Champions League came as additional proof he is ready for a move to a bigger club.

However, Gyokeres is not the only Sporting player linked with an exit.

Sporting wonderkid Geovany Quenda has been linked with a move to Manchester United and Chelsea in recent times.

The 17-year-old has been linked with a host of clubs after impressing in the Champions League.

While nothing is advanced, Caught Offside understands Newcastle are signalling clear intent to step up their interest in Quenda soon, with the Magpies looking to add more young talent to their squad.

This means United will face more Premier League competition should they decide to launch a formal pursuit for Quenda in the summer.

It remains to be seen if Sporting are willing to negotiate a lower deal for Quenda than his €100m release clause like they’re reportedly willing to do with Gyokeres.

United are likely to hold an advantage over all Sporting players due to the Amorim connection, though it would be unrealistic to expect the Reds to sign all of their best players.

We don’t want to become Sporting 2.0 when the objective is to become the best in the world. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t consider their best players, who could help Amorim bring us back to the promised land.
