Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer move for Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The Red Devils have been massively underwhelming this season, as they are sitting 14th in the Premier League standings after winning just nine of their 27 matches.

United fans expected a revival in their fortunes after Ruben Amorim took over as manager, but they have further regressed under the Portuguese boss.

Scoring goals has been a big issue for them, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both enduring dismal campaigns.

Amorim is desperate to make reinforcements in attack. The club failed to add a forward in January, but the Sun report they are considering a summer swoop for French star Mateta.

They have reportedly sent scouts to watch the 27-year-old and the feedback has been extremely positive.

The striker, called as Ronaldo-like by famous journalist Rory Smith, has been enjoying an excellent campaign with Palace, scoring 15 goals and creating three assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

The Eagles signed Mateta for £11 million in January 2022, but they are expected to demand a far higher fee for a transfer in the summer.

United would prefer a move for Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyokeres, who Amorim knows well from his time at the Portuguese club.

However, the 26-year-old wants to play in the Champions League and they cannot offer him that.

Victor Osimhen is another option for the Manchester giants, but the Nigerian’s wage demands could be a big stumbling block in the way of a deal.
