Manchester United could hijack Liverpool’s move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.

Liverpool, who have yet to make their first summer signing, have reportedly already agreed personal terms with Mamardashvili.

The 23-year-old starred for Georgia in their run to the last-16 of Euro 2024 earlier this summer.

A deal could make Mamardashvili the first signing of the Arne Slot era at Anfield, but reports suggest the keeper may have other ideas.

According to The Mirror, Mamardashvili is also very much open to a move to Manchester United.

This news will come as a big concern to Liverpool, who seemingly view Mamardashvili as a future replacement for Alisson, but United must trim their squad before bringing in new faces.

Simon Mullock reports: “The only issue surrounding the deal may be United’s lack of PSR wiggle room, as they have already spent big on Leny Yoro, Joshua Zirkzee, and Matthijs de Ligt during this window – so a sale would be preferable. The deal remains an unlikely one, but it could develop amid talks that reportedly began two weeks.”

Mamardashvili, who joined Valencia from Dinamo Tbilisi (initial loan) in the summer of 2021, has three years left on his contract with the Spanish club.

Valencia could demand as much as £34 million for the 23-year-old keeper, which presumablyly explains why Liverpool have not been able to strike a deal yet.

The report suggests that selling Jadon Sancho is one way United could make room for additional recruits.

Sancho’s future has been up in the air all summer, amid links to PSG and now Chelsea. The winger was absent from the squad on Friday as United beat Fulham 1-0 in the Premier League curtain-raiser.
