AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders has cancelled a vacation as reports circle on Manchester City’s pursuit of the Netherlands midfielder ahead of the new campaign, as per a new report.
Reijnders has been identified as a potent addition to Manchester City’s midfield ranks after a lacklustre 2024-25 campaign saw the 2023 treble winners fail to challenge for the Premier League and UEFA Champions League titles.
City compounded their misery by losing the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace – the latest reminder of the urgency around a rebuild at the Etihad Stadium after a series of poor transfer and contract decisions made by the hierarchy since their treble win in 2023.
Kevin De Bruyne played his final game in a Manchester City shirt in the final day Premier League win away at Fulham and is expected to complete a two-year transfer to newly-crowned Serie A champions in the next fortnight.
After securing qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League, Manchester City are set to shift their focus to the FIFA Club World Cup in a few weeks and they will have to do so without De Bruyne, who is almost certain to have joined Napoli by mid June.
The Premier League have allowed Manchester City and Chelsea – who will be representing the English top-flight at the 32-club tournament – to sign and register new players in a newfound transfer window running between June 1-10.
City are eyeing four to five new additions ahead of the 2025-26 campaign and after withdrawing interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz – who is expected to join Liverpool – the Blues are making progress in deals for Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders.
As per a new report by Corriere Dello Sport, as relayed by Sport Witness, Tijjani has cancelled a vacation he had booked for his family in Ibiza from the onset of July as he continues to be linked with a switch to the Etihad Stadium.
It is believed that Guardiola has insisted that Manchester City officials wrap up a deal with AC Milan in time for the 26-year-old midfielder to feature at the Club World Cup, a tournament that has a tempting cash chest for the winner.
Manchester City are yet to make a formal bid for Reijnders but are expected to present an official bid to AC Milan in the coming days whilst they look to strike an agreement with Nottingham Forest over Morgan Gibbs-White, who is understood to have agreed personal terms with the Blues.
