Erling Haaland has rejected a proposal from a Netflix-used production company over a brand new fly-on-the-wall documentary.
It is the latest sports-related venture seemingly being entertained by the streaming platform giants, with the information dropping just a few days before Manchester City’s landmark docu-series from their Treble-winning campaign lands on the subscription service.
Manchester City announced earlier this month that the club’s behind-the-scenes series covering the 2022/23 campaign, ‘Together: Treble Winners’ would be exclusively released on Netflix, and made available on the platform from Tuesday 2 April.
It is widely believed that Netflix themselves sanctioned a staggering seven-figure sum in order to secure the footage from Manchester City producers, and worked alongside the Etihad Stadium club’s media department in the editing process over the course of six months.
Now, the latest venture from Netflix appears to have seen the streaming and production giants make an approach to one of Manchester City’s players individually over a behind-the-scenes documentary into his on-the-field role.
According to the information of MailSport, Manchester City and Norway striker Erling Haaland has rejected a proposal from a Netflix-used production company for a fly-on-the-wall documentary series on the art of goalscoring.
It is reported that the globally-acclaimed streaming giant is ‘interested’ in the concept after the success of ‘Quarterback’, an eight-episode series launched in July 2023 offering an all-access insight into three NFL quarterbacks for the 2022 American football season.
Alongside Manchester City’s iconic number nine, MailSport report that Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins has also been asked, with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah set to be approached too, while it remains ‘unclear’ whether either player would be interested.
Manchester City themselves have been at the very heart of producing player-specific documentary content for their own in-house media platform, with the latest series showcasing a behind-the-scenes look at the rise of Julian Alvarez.
‘Julian Alvarez: Standing Alone’ showcases the Argentine’s rise through the South American game, right through to the very pinnacle of the sport after ‘La Araña’ claimed a staggering haul of the World Cup, Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League within a matter of months.
