Manchester City have officially signed Juma Bah from Real Valladolid. The signing was confirmed on mancity.com earlier today. Bah will now join Lens on loan for the remainder of this season. Manchester City’s signing of Juma Bah does show that the rebuild of Manchester City’s defence is well underway. He is the third centre-back that City have signed this month. Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis have also signed with the world champions this month.
Juma Bah has impressed with Real Valladolid this season. The young centre-back thrived in La Liga and that strong form has earned him a move to Manchester City. Based on what he has shown for Real Valladolid it is clear that Bah has a bright future in the game. The hope is that the young centre-back can continue his development at Lens for the remainder of this season before joining Pep Guardiola’s squad in the summer.
What is clear is that Manchester City have begun the process of rebuilding their defence for the future. The signings of Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, and now Juma Bah show that the City has one eye on the future. This season has seen Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and John Stones all suffer from injury issues. That situation has seen Pep Guardiola’s side struggle defensively at times. There is also the prospect that a player like John Stones could depart the club in the near future so now City have three new centre-backs in their squad to cover for possible departures.
It will now be interesting to how Juma Bah gets on with Lens for the remainder of this season. If his strong form for Real Valladolid can follow him to Ligue One it will show that Manchester City have signed one of the premier young centre-backs in the game. If he can impress for Lens he may well play his way into Pep Guardiola’s squad for next season and beyond.
