Speaking about being named Manchester City captain, he said: “Being named captain, it’s probably one of the biggest honours of my career. I’m going to start my ninth season at the club. And we went through a lot of fantastic moments and some disappointments as well.”

“All that experience, I will try to pass it to the younger guys, but the leadership in the team, it’s not about one guy.”

Bernardo Silva further explained that it will be a team effort to provide the leadership that the new-look Manchester City squad needs. Bernardo Silva further explained: “It’s not about me and it’s not about the last captain. Or who was the captain two or three or four years ago. It’s about each one of ourselves being our own leader and helping the guy next to us in the dressing room.”

“So, in the same way that we helped a lot of the other guys, I’m counting on Ruben [Dias], Rodri, Erling [Haaland] and all the guys to help me.”

“Because I will need that help to help the team achieve a lot of things and hopefully win titles.”

Typically, the Manchester City players select who will captain the side ahead of each season. But after Kyle Walker was selected as City captain for the 24/25 season and subsequently departed the club in January for AC Milan, Pep Guardiola has stepped in and selected Manchester City’s captaincy group for the 25/26 season. Guardiola selected Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias, Rodri and Erling Haaland. All four players are quality selections. But in the case of Bernardo Silva, he is the ideal captain for Manchester City’s new era.

Bernardo Silva knows what it takes to scale the proverbial mountain. He has been a key component of Manchester City’s era of dominance.
