In a recent post on X, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Manchester City have identified Real Madrid star Rodrygo as their main target for this transfer window. It is understood that Pep Guardiola’s side will only move in for the Brazilian attacker if Savinho leaves this summer.
Rodrygo enjoyed a productive season at the Madrid club recently as he was responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays for them on the right flank. The 24-year-old scored 14 goals and picked up 11 assists in 54 appearances for Los Blancos in the previous campaign across various competitions.
The Brazilian talent gave a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 2.52 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He kept 37% of his attempts on target. Rodrygo was excellent with his ball distribution in the opponent’s half after completing 85.9% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via fbref.com).
Rodrygo’s current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will expire in the summer of 2028. Hence, it won’t be easy for Man City to land him on a cut-price deal in this transfer window.

Rodrygo is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates on the offensive end of the field and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Brazilian talent mainly operates as a right-winger but can also function as a left-sided wide player or as a centre-forward if asked to do so. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in the Premier League if Man City manage to get him on board this summer.
We can expect Rodrygo to bring more quality and depth to Pep Guardiola’s frontline. He is good enough to earn a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium this season.
Rodrygo could even serve as an upgrade over Jeremy Doku, who has struggled to be consistent with his productivity in the final third. At 24, he has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him an excellent signing for Man City to pull off in this transfer window.
