Two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs are fronting an intense transfer battle for one of the game’s most-exciting midfielders, according to reports from Norway.

Manchester City remain on the hunt for midfield reinforcements this month despite already issuing a transfer spend north of £120 million on three new arrivals into Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad in the last week.

Etihad Stadium officials confirmed the arrival of two central defenders in Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis from RC Lens and Palmeiras respectively, while Omar Marmoush became a new attacking profile via a £59 million switch from Eintracht Frankfurt.

Much has been made of City’s need for a new player in the centre of the park however, with a combination of ageing legs and injuries hampering the club’s cross-competition campaign and leaving them in a precarious position at the halfway stage.

But while there have been links with a loan swoop for Juventus’ Douglas Luiz, the latest on a permanent move for a new midfielder comes from Norway, and one of the nation’s most-exciting young talents drawing interest from elsewhere in the Premier League.

According to the information of TV2 Sport, a decision regarding the future of Rosenborg midfielder, Sverre Nypan is now ‘imminent’ although the Norwegian club are yet to have received any offers for the player.

Managed by agent Rafaela Pimenta, who also represents Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, it is claimed that the midfielder’s representatives have been talking to ‘several top clubs’ in recent weeks and months with the list of potential sides now being narrowed down.

From the side of Rosenborg, the report claims that the club are currently demanding around £10.8 million to sanction a sale, while there is a desire within those who work around Nypan to have a decision lined up within the ‘next few weeks’.

Among those interested are said to be Premier League giants Arsenal and Manchester City, while Manchester United are not among the remaining candidates for the 18-year-old’s signature.

It remains to be seen whether City view the teenager as a first-team signing, or whether he could fit into the category of a profile of player that will be developed elsewhere in Europe or within the City Football Group portfolio.

One name that appears to be destined for the latter is Juma Bah, whom Manchester City are embroiled in a controversial pursuit of with his current club, Real Valladolid.

The La Liga side hit out at the Premier League champions this week for tapping up the player and encouraging him to break his contract, before entering into negotiations with the La Liga club at a cut-price fee due to his youth player agreement.

From the side of City, they are believed to view the Sierra Leone teenager as a prospect to send out on loan if a deal can be reached, with RC Lens viewed as a likely destination after the two clubs agreed a transfer for the aforementioned Khusanov.
