Recruitment chiefs at Manchester City are exploring the possibility of recruiting in two more positions in Pep Guardiola’s line-up aside from central midfield.

Much of the talk in the opening three weeks of the ongoing summer market has centred around Etihad Stadium bosses’ intention to reinforce their midfield options, particularly due to concerns around the workload of Rodrigo.

The Spanish international midfielder is continuously relied upon by Pep Guardiola’s side, and with no sufficient back-up to the 28-year-old, his physical demands across the course of a season and into the off-season lead to reductions in performance.

However, as the chase for a satisfactory level back-up continues, a new report has detailed the simultaneous search for new names in other positions across Pep Guardiola’s Premier League title-winning squad.

According to the information of The Athletic’s Sam Lee, Manchester City are continuing to explore a move for a new right-winger to bring into Pep Guardiola’s set-up, amid ongoing uncertainty as to whether Savio will become a permanent fixture in the first-team picture.

The report also reveals that the Premier League champions could also sign a new left-back to replace Sergio Gomez, with the Spaniard expected to leave this summer and attracting interest from across Europe but particularly Real Sociedad.

However, fans should perhaps not expect a name to necessarily challenge the fate of Josko Gvardiol or Nathan Ake, with Sam Lee explaining that it is not expected that Gomez’s replacement would be a ready-made option to go straight into Guardiola’s team.

It remain to be seen whether Manchester City will have enough time to have their new names and faces through the doors of the City Football Academy in time for the start of pre-season preparations, however.

Pep Guardiola and his players are due to return around Monday 15 July, although those who have competed at the European Championships and Copa America are widely expected to return later, and some may miss large parts of the upcoming pre-season tour of the USA.

Due to their exit at the group stage of the European Championships, Manchester City fans can expect involvement from Croatia duo Josko Gvardiol and Mateo Kovacic when the club travel Stateside for their four-game tour of the East Coast.

However, later exits such as Jeremy Doku and Kevin De Bruyne could be afforded at least an additional week away from Manchester City duties as the club look to have all their national team competing players fully recharged for a busy season.
