Everton appear to be a strong candidate to sign the Englishman, but can only consider a loan. Grealish’s salary, which exceeds £300,000 per week, is unaffordable on a permanent basis for the Toffees, who must also comply with Premier League financial restrictions. Newcastle United are also closely monitoring the situation, although there is no internal consensus on a loan deal.

From City’s point of view, keeping such an expensive and underused player makes no sense. Beyond the feelings or the quality he can still offer in certain situations, the club must think about salary management and the internal balance of the dressing room. A player with little playing time but one of the highest salaries generates unnecessary noise.

However, his depreciation in the market forces City to act with some caution. A loan to a club like Everton could serve as a showcase to increase his value without assuming the entire financial cost. On the other hand, retaining him simply for depth on the bench is unsustainable in a squad that needs space and freshness for those who really matter.

The ideal solution for City would be to agree on a loan with an option to buy, sharing the salary proportionally, so as not to lose the entire investment. As for choosing between Everton and Newcastle, both options offer playing time and visibility, but the club will have to analyse which club is willing to take on a larger portion of the salary.

The moment is decisive. If City wait too long and do not register him for the Club World Cup, they run the risk of having an idle and costly asset. If they let him go soon, it will reduce tension in the group and open up space for new signings. In a squad that thrives on immediate performance, decisions like this cannot be postponed.
