On the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, journalist Pete O’Rourke mentioned that Manchester City are close to recruiting AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders this summer. It has been claimed that Pep Guardiola‘s side are inching closer to signing the Dutch talent in this upcoming transfer window.
The 26-year-old is enjoying a great campaign at the Italian club after he produced a string of eye-catching performances at the heart of their midfield. Reijnders has made 52 appearances for AC Milan this season, scoring 15 times and securing five assists across all competitions.
The Dutch midfield ace has given a good account of himself at the centre of the park and deserves credit for averaging 0.7 tackles, 1.0 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 2.1 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has also distributed possession accurately from midfield based on his pass success rate of 89.1% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will run out in the summer of 2030. Hence, Man City would have to make a convincing offer if they are serious about signing Reijnders this off-season.

Reijnders is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure possession back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He usually clears his lines when needed and can shoot the ball with power from long range.
The Dutch talent has got the vision to create some decent chances in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or play in the number ten position if asked to do so.
Reijnders would no doubt add more quality to Man City head coach Pep Guardiola’s midfield. He is already good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the Etihad Stadium in the coming years.
At 26, Reijnders is entering his prime which makes him a great choice for the Mancunian giants to consider this summer. However, there are some concerns over whether he can make a smooth transition to life in the Premier League.
