Ruben Amorim says he's "where I am supposed to be" in a teaser of his first interview as Manchester United head coach.

The 39-year-old flew into Manchester on Monday to begin his new role, taking the reins from interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy after the legendary striker oversaw a short four-game spell in charge.

Amorim has been tasked with replacing Erik ten Hag after his dismissal in October, and will usher in a new era at Old Trafford after becoming the Red Devils' first-ever head coach – a role that United wanted to move forward with after an intense restructuring of the club's hierarchy.

Stellar work with Portuguese giants Sporting CP saw Amorim immediately identified as the frontrunner to take over from Ten Hag, and many supporters are now waiting to hear what their new head coach has planned for the future.

For now, United fans can take comfort from a small sample of Amorim's first interview, which suggests he is calm and full of self-belief as he starts work.

“You watch on TV and you know that it is big and it's impressive," Amorim said. "When you are here, you can feel it and I think you feel the history.

“I'm really, really proud to be Manchester United coach so it's amazing. It's a real honour to be here."

How to watch Ruben Amorim's first interview

Subscribers to MUTV can watch Ruben Amorim's first interview in full from 19:00 GMT on Friday November 15. The conversation will then become free to watch from 07:00 GMT on Saturday 16 November.

“That's really funny because I feel very relaxed," he added, when told about the prestige and history of Old Trafford. "Maybe because it's not gameday. When we have a game, I'm a different guy, but I really don't feel the weight.

"I'm really excited and I'm quite relaxed, you know. I think I am where I am supposed to be."

Amorim takes over with United a lowly 13th in the Premier League table after winning just four of their 11 games to date. One of those victories came in Van Nistelrooy's final game in charge - a convincing 3-0 win over Leicester City at Old Trafford.

There's also work for Amorim to do in the Europa League. United have won just one of their opening four league phase games, drawing the other three against Porto, Fenerbahce and FC Twente. They sit 15th in the 36-team table, needing to get into the top eight if they are to immediately advance through to the knockout stages.

Confidence that Amorim can turn things around should be high with a quick glance at his record with Sporting CP during 2024/25. The 20-time Primeira Liga champions have won all 11 league games they have played, scoring 39 goals and conceding just five, and steamrolled past Manchester City 4-1 in a recent Champions League encounter.
