Manchester United are committed to signing one of Portugal’s best emerging talents.
The Red Devils have had a good start under new manager Ruben Amorim. They drew at Ipswich Town before beating Bodo/Glimt at Old Trafford.
Amorim is likely to work with the same squad for the rest of the season, but he will definitely want upgrades in multiple positions next summer.
Sporting CP wonderkid Geovany Quenda has been identified as a prime target for Amorim and A Bola claim that the club have set aside £50 million excluding bonuses.
The Red Devils are committed to signing the right wing-back. With Liverpool also interested, United want to get ahead of the competition with an advanced summer deal.
Sporting CP are aware of the increasing transfer interest. It is reported that they won’t block the teenager’s exit, provided they receive £50m plus add-ons for him.
The 17-year-old made his debut under Amorim at Sporting CP in August. He has since been a consistent starter from the right wing-back role for the Portuguese champions.
The youngster has registered two goals and two assists from 20 outings, but has also caught the eye with his defensive skills. He has won 62 percent of his duels with three ball recoveries.
The ‘very talented‘ wonderkid has likewise excelled with his work rate and pace on the counter-attack.
Quenda has made the position his own at Sporting CP and he could do the same with a move to Old Trafford, given Amorim was responsible for his first-team breakthrough.
Amad Diallo was brilliant from right wing-back last weekend, but Amorim may want strong competition for places. The 39-year-old prefers at least one winger as a wing-back.
Antony looks the likely candidate to leave to compensate for Quenda’s arrival. There have been claims that the Brazilian could leave when the transfer window reopens in January.
Quenda can’t be signed until he turns 18 (April 30) due to Brexit rules. United will still be aiming to secure an advanced deal for the summer as soon as the transfer window reopens.
