Manchester United travel to face Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League this evening.
The new-manager bounce has slowed after consecutive Premier League defeats, with Ruben Amorim now well aware of the task facing him at Old Trafford.
An error-prone performance saw the Red Devils beaten by Nottingham Forest at the weekend, a result that leaves the club 13th in the Premier League table. Already eight points adrift of the top four, the Europa League could offer a more realistic avenue to Champions League qualification.
United remain unbeaten in the competition, though three draws leave Amorim’s side positioned just outside of the top eight. Those positions earn automatic progress to the Round of 16 and seeding in the first knockout round.
Amorim is edging closer to a full complement of options with Luke Shaw and Jonny Evans currently the only confirmed absentees. The contest could come too soon for Victor Lindelof, though the Swedish centre-back is nearing his return to action.
Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Tyrell Malacia will all hope for starts if Amorim rotates his options, while a decision will be made on whether Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund leads the line.
Manchester United: Onana; Mazraoui, Maguire, Martinez; Amad, Eriksen, Casemiro, Malacia; Rashford, Fernandes, Zirkzee.
Viktoria Plzen host Man United in the Europa League on Thursday 12th December 2024. Kick-off is 17:45 GMT.
Viktoria Plzen vs Manchester United will be shown on TNT Sports 2 and Discovery+.
