Rumours of a possible big departure from FC Barcelona have been gaining weight in the past few hours, with the midfield department being pointed out as the area where cuts could be made.

While Barça are not actively looking to force a player out, they will study attractive offers that come in, especially if the player in question also asks to leave.

Marc Casado and Fermin Lopez, to that end, have been touted as possible candidates for departure, given that they will not be guaranteed starters in Hansi Flick’s setup.

Now, according to David Bernabeu of SPORT, Manchester United have made a direct move for the signing of Fermin and are prepared to present a financial proposal exceeding €70 million.

Both Barcelona and the player’s camp are aware of the interest, and although no concrete progress has been made yet, a transfer could materialise in the coming weeks. Inside Barcelona, there is debate – but the idea of selling if the offer is high is gaining traction.

Interest in Fermin has been simmering since early summer. His entourage confirmed approaches from several clubs, though the midfielder made it clear he wanted to stay at Barcelona.

Earlier, there were preliminary contacts with a major Saudi club, Chelsea, and even Arsenal, but none of those reached an advanced stage, with the player always maintaining that he wishes to stay.

Manchester United’s interest has intensified in recent days. Fermin fits the vision of manager Ruben Amorim, with the club mentioning their interest in him during discussions about the Marcus Rashford operation.

The Red Devils are preparing to make a massive financial push to convince Fermin, including nearly doubling his salary, to take the step. The midfielder has already rejected several Premier League offers, and he remains reluctant to leave Barcelona.

A difficult decision for Barcelona

For Barcelona, negotiations could begin if the offer is close to the €70 million mark. Such a deal could solve the financial issues instantly and allow the club to operate under the 1:1 rule, register all contract renewals and signings.
