Manchester United are reportedly biding their time over a possible move for Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.
The Italy international is one of several names on the Red Devils’ radar as they look to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s options at centre-forward.
According to Corriere dello Sport today, United “remain on the sidelines without making any concrete progress” for the 25-year-old.
The report also mentions that Kean has not ruled out a switch to a Saudi Pro League side, with Al-Qadsiah waiting to see if their €15m-a-year salary offer is enough to tempt him out of Europe.
It’s a wage United would not be able to match, and the club have already balked at Kean’s astronomical wage demands which are believed to come to around £330,000 a week.
At least a transfer fee for the player would currently be very straightforward, as his £44m release clause kicked in earlier this month.
It is understood that the clause is active from 1 July until 15 July, but the kicker which United may struggle with is that it is thought to only be payable up front, rather than in instalments.
Spreading payments over coming years seems to be INEOS’ preferred way of doing business, with the structure of the potential deal for Bryan Mbeumo one of the stumbling blocks.
On the pitch, Kean is an interesting option given his underwhelming previous stint in the Premier League where he managed just four goals in 39 appearances for Everton.
While this may be cause for apprehension he had a much better season last time around in Serie A, managing 25 goals in 44 games for La Viola.
It was an impressive first season for the club, after an underwhelming return to Juventus indicated that his career at the top level was at risk of fizzling out.
Compared to other names on United’s striker shortlist – recently expanded to include Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins – Kean is not the most exciting, but if last season’s goalscoring is an indication for the future he could be a solid recruit.
