Manchester United have beaten arch-rivals Liverpool in the race for Matheus Cunha.
The Brazilian has agreed a five-year deal at United according to reports and he has requested to wear the number 10 shirt.
Reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has already given the famous “here we go” to the deal and United have met the requirements of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ release clause for the exciting attacker.
Cunha has already all but confirmed the transfer after the glowing comments he made about United manager Ruben Amorim earlier this week.
Supporters of the club will be champing at the bit to see him in a red shirt and the move is even sweeter for them according to The Daily Mail.
The paper claims that Liverpool were keen to bring the player in after his amazing solo performance at Anfield in February when Cunha scored an outrageous goal in a 1-2 defeat for Wolves.
It is reported that, the Anfield side “were certainly interested in the Brazilian and considered at one stage getting involved in the conversations about his future.”
Nonetheless, it is claimed that Arne Slot’s team stepped away after deciding that they were “well stocked in that area and they were not 100 per cent convinced about where and how he would fit into the squad.”
What’s more, The Mail states that their pursuit of German, Florian Wirtz, has become their number one priority this summer.
The outlet does stress that the deal did not collapse due to financial demands however, as it was never that developed.
The Brazil international is reportedly in love with the idea of playing for United and it is questionable whether he would have considered joining their arch-rivals, even if they had firmed up their interest.
United supporters will be keen to see the deal finalised rapidly so the club can move on to further targets in what promises to be a busy summer of transfer action.
