Man City predicted lineup vs Liverpool - Premier League

Misfiring Manchester City are aiming to halt Liverpool's Premier League title charge on Sunday afternoon.

The Cityzens, who exited the Champions League in disappointing fashion midweek, will surrender their title this season but are still frantically scrapping to finish within the top four and return to Europe's premier competition next term. Victory against the league leaders would strengthen their hand.

Pep Guardiola and his players will take some solace from their recent home record, with significant victories over Chelsea and Newcastle United in Premier League duels at the Etihad Stadium. Three points this weekend would be handy for their European push but City would almost certainly take a point before a ball is kicked.

Here is how City could line up for a tantalising match-up.

GK: Ederson - The Brazilian was called into action regularly in Madrid midweek and stood up to the test despite conceding three. One would imagine he will be similarly busy up against the Premier League's top scorers.

RB: Rico Lewis - Abdukodir Khusanov endured a torrid evening at right-back against Vinicius Junior on Wednesday and is likely to be spared against Luis Diaz. Young Lewis should be restored to the starting XI.

CB: Ruben Dias - Dias, who has had his own fitness concerns this season, has been offered little consistency in his centre-back partners due to injury. The Portuguese is currently playing several levels below his usual high standards.

CB: Nathan Ake - John Stones is facing several months out with a thigh injury sustained at the Santiago Bernabeu, but fortunately Ake is available once again. The Dutchman will be kept on his toes by the movement and quick thinking of Diogo Jota.

LB: Josko Gvardiol - Gvardiol has dropped some shocking performances this season and was floored during Kylian Mbappe's second goal midweek. The in-form Mohamed Salah could offer him a similarly harrowing experience on Sunday.

DM: Nico Gonzalez - While nothing but the merest of consolations, Gonzalez did open his City account against Madrid. The Spaniard will be key in denying Liverpool time and space in transition.

DM: Mateo Kovacic - Kovacic should return to the starting lineup having been used as a substitute against his former employers on Wednesday. Ilkay Gundogan has proven he no longer has the legs for such high-profile fixtures.

RW: Phil Foden - Foden has often proven a handful for Liverpool to manage in recent seasons and the decline of Andy Robertson will offer him hope of hurting the Reds on Sunday. Still, the Englishman is hardly in scintillating form himself.

AM: Omar Marmoush - Marmoush produced an astounding 14-minute hat-trick against Newcastle last weekend and will be keen to be the game-changing Egyptian at the Etihad this weekend. He will be pushed further forward if Erling Haaland misses out through injury.

LW: Savinho - Jeremy Doku could come into the lineup to torment the defensively suspect Trent Alexander-Arnold, but Savinho has jumped ahead of the Belgian in the pecking order during recent weeks.

ST: Erling Haaland - Uncertainty lingers over his availability against Liverpool having been an unused substitute in Madrid. Guardiola will be tempted to chuck him into the action if deemed remotely fit.
