Girona star Sávio has today named a headline member of the attacking ranks at La Liga rivals Real Madrid as his footballing ‘reference’.
The name of youngster Sávio has of course taken its place front and centre in the European media headlines across the week to date.
This comes after word was forthcoming that Premier League champions Manchester City had come to an agreement, to bring the gifted attacker to England in the summer.
Sávio, for his part, is currently plying his trade with the aforementioned Girona, on loan from French outfit Troyes.
All three clubs are part of the aptly-named ‘City Group’, though, with the transfer team at The Etihad having in turn made use of their place at the top of the ladder to bring in another of European football’s most promising talents.
The 19-year-old, despite his tender years, is expected to be thrown in at the deep end under the watch of Pep Guardiola at City next season.
And yet, as alluded to above, Sávio will all the while be continuing to keep a close eye on the progress of a key performer at another of the continent’s heavyweight clubs.
Speaking in an interview with La Liga World this week, the explosive winger was asked whether or not he has a ‘reference’, whom he looks up to in football.
And Sávio went on to confirm as much, in the form of Real Madrid star Rodrygo:
“My reference right now is Rodrygo.”
Coincidentally, Sávio’s admission comes just days out from he and fellow countryman Rodrygo preparing to lock horns, in a top of the table La Liga showdown between Real Madrid and Girona at the Santiago Bernabéu.
