In the January 2024 transfer window, it was reported that Newcastle United had made clear Miguel Almiron was available to buy.
Rumours circulated that he could move to a Saudi Pro League club but nothing happened.
Then in the summer 2024 transfer window, it looked like Miguel Almiron could move back to the MLS.
With claims of a bid by Charlotte FC. however, the winger remained at Newcastle United.
With only one Premier League start in over eight months, it appears Miguel Almiron is available for sale, if somebody offers the right deal to both NUFC and the player.
Now the agent of Miguel Almiron has spoken about the situation after media claims this past week that River Plate are interested in signing him.
Daniel Campos also making public what (he says) Charlotte FC offered in the summer for Miguel Almiron.
Daniel Campos, agent of Miguel Almiron, talking to Radio La Red, as quoted by TyC Sports – 16 November 2024:
“Although Miguel is not happy with the minutes he has in England, he wants to stay and fight for it at Newcastle.
“The coach (Eddie Howe) always supported him.
“When he (Miguel Almiron) made a (transfer) request, he asked him not to leave.
“They (Charlotte FC) offered around 18 million dollars.
“We had arranged a contract with them but the club rejected the proposal from the United States.
“He has a valid contract. The contract was renewed last year for three more years (until June 2027), and with the new owners of the club Miguel does not despair about money issues or doing crazy things.
“If there is an offer from a team, we will go through the appropriate channels.”
With transfer stories, always difficult to know exactly what to believe.
Daniel Campos says around $18million was offered by Charlotte FC, which equals around £14.3million at today’s exchange rate.
Would United really have turned down that?
Three months ago, the very reliable Chris Waugh reported this on the situation, after claims Newcastle were holding out for £16m.
Chris Waugh at The Athletic, on why Newcastle United decided they were wasting their time with Charlotte FC – 15 August 2024:
‘Newcastle had a verbal agreement with the MLS side, but the deal collapsed after the player and his agent demanded higher wages.
In response, Charlotte lowered their offer to $9million (£7m), a figure that was deemed too low by Newcastle.
