Chelsea made a call for Hugo Ekitike three weeks ago, but Frankfurt asked for €100m which is too expensive according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues have already signed Liam Delap for £30m from Ipswich, and are looking to bring more new faces through the door at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea are in the market for a versatile attacker, left winger and centre back to strengthen Enzo Maresca’s squad ahead of the new season.
With Delap through the door attention now turns to signing a versatile forward with Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku both set to leave.
Chelsea have been linked with a number of names including Ekitike, Mohammed Kudus and most recently Joao Pedro.

The Blues are thought to be admirers of Ekitike and the France under-21 international scored 22 goals in all competitions last season.
Frankfurt’s €100m valuation is a major stumbling block, with Chelsea thought to value Ekitike at around £67m, and Romano has provided an update on the situation.
“Chelsea made a call for Ekitike three weeks ago but Frankfurt asked for €100m which is too much for Chelsea,” he told his YouTube channel.
“João Pedro is now one of the options, Newcastle are working on the deal.”
Ekitike is also attracting interest from Manchester United and Liverpool, but if the price remains the same it’s unlikely a move will be made for the 22-year-old.
Whilst a move for Ekitike seems unlikely, a move for Pedro could be viewed as much more of a possibility with Chelsea said to admire the 23-year-old.

It’s thought the Blues are giving serious consideration to signing Pedro, who scored ten Premier League goals last season, and is a full Brazil international.
Chelsea face competition from Newcastle, and Brighton are thought to want around £60m for the Brazilian, who they paid a club record £30m for back in 2023.
