Arsenal and Liverpool are among the clubs keen on the potential transfer of Lyon wonderkid Malick Fofana this summer. According to CaughtOffside, sources close to the situation suggest Fofana is open to leaving Lyon, with a price tag of around €50m being placed on the 19-year-old winger.
The young Belgian has impressed in Ligue 1, attracting interest from several major clubs. While Arsenal and Liverpool are leading the charge from the Premier League, Aston Villa and Newcastle have also shown an interest, while Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus remain in the mix.
Fofana’s reputation is growing rapidly, and it is becoming increasingly difficult to see him staying at Lyon for much longer.
His performances have caught the attention of Europe’s top scouts, but as yet, no official approaches have been made. Given his age and potential, it is expected that competition for his signature will increase as the summer transfer window approaches.

Mikel Arteta has built a strong Arsenal side, but squad depth remains a key concern, particularly in attack. Injuries and inconsistency in the final third have disrupted their campaign, and additional reinforcements could make a significant difference.
“It’s certainly easy to see him being a good fit at Arsenal, where Mikel Arteta could do with more attacking depth after a difficult season with injuries and inconsistent form in the final third of the pitch.”
Fofana may not be an immediate starter at the Emirates, but he represents a long-term project who could develop into a key figure in Arteta’s system. With Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka firmly established, Fofana would be given time to adapt to the demands of English football while providing a valuable rotation option.
At Liverpool, there could be a more immediate role for Fofana, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding Mohamed Salah’s future. The Egyptian remains a target for Saudi clubs, while Diogo Jota’s persistent injury struggles have left Liverpool’s attacking depth in question.
“Liverpool, meanwhile, could also make sense as a good destination for Fofana, as the Reds might soon need to make changes in attack as well. Mohamed Salah is near the end of his contract, while Diogo Jota has been really injury prone, so there could perhaps be a role for Fofana in Arne Slot’s side pretty quickly.”
Fofana’s ability to play on both flanks would make him an attractive option for Arne Slot, particularly if Liverpool are looking to evolve their forward line in the coming seasons.

For Arsenal, the idea of adding Malick Fofana to the squad is an intriguing one. His technical ability and raw pace make him a promising talent, and while he may not start immediately, his long-term potential is undeniable. With Arteta looking to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts, Fofana could be a shrewd investment.
For Liverpool fans, Fofana represents a more immediate need. With Salah’s long-term future unclear and Jota’s injury problems persisting, the Belgian winger could offer fresh energy in attack. His adaptability would suit Liverpool’s fluid attacking system, and under Arne Slot’s guidance, he could thrive in a high-pressing setup.
Ultimately, Lyon’s asking price could be a decisive factor. At €50m, Fofana is not a cheap acquisition, and both Arsenal and Liverpool will need to weigh up whether the investment is worth it compared to other attacking options in the market. If either club does make a move, they will be securing a player with significant promise and a high ceiling.
