The former Dundee player made a dramatic move to the side he has supported his entire life, when Brendan Rodgers moved to snap the midfielder from the Dark Blues in a £1 million deal at the end of last summer’s transfer window.
In a move he could scarcely believe, the footage which showed McCowan coming through the tunnel at Paradise with his Celtic shirt on for some photographs ahead of his unveiling, revealed a man who was truly awestruck at the fortune which has shone on him in his footballing career. There is many who support the club that would die for the opportunity to pull on that jersey and run out onto the field in our colours for one game, never mind getting the chance to do it on a permanent basis.

McCowan has always remained humble regarding this most auspicious of circumstances which has come his way and he was in dreamland at Tannadice this past Saturday, when he helped the club clinch title 55. After the match, Luke said to Celtic TV: “It’s a bit surreal if I’m honest. I don’t really know what to do with myself because I’ve never been here before. I don’t think I ever got this far in my dreams. I would never have thought I’d have been here. In 2022, I was actually in that stand celebrating as well. It’s nice to come and be full circle and it’s nice to win it on my ex-rivals’ pitch.”

Playing his part for the team this season, with some impressive cameos from the bench at times, which has kept the fluidity and mobility in midfield it has to be acknowledged, McCowan is thrilled by his debut campaign in the hoops. “Yeah, that’s the thing. A lot of people will probably say to you right now that it’s about building again and going again next year or whatever for the league. But I think right now I’m going to relish the moment and enjoy it. Because I know it’s not often you get to do this – especially where I’ve come from. I’m absolutely buzzing. This smile will not come off my face all day.”
