Paris Saint-Germain initially took a short-term approach by loaning Xavi Simons to RB Leipzig for another season, but his future is now settled, with the German club securing him long-term.

Back in September, Christian Falk reported that Manchester City and Liverpool were keeping a close eye on Simons’ situation. Earlier in the summer, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Manchester United had also expressed interest, highlighting the Dutch midfielder’s rising status among Europe’s top clubs.

More recently, CaughtOffside claimed that Manchester United had a strong chance of beating Manchester City to Simons’ signature next summer.

Meanwhile, Sport Bild reported that Leipzig had hoped to make the move permanent as early as January. Although PSG’s €80 million asking price was initially an obstacle, it now seems that issue has been resolved, ensuring Simons remains in the Bundesliga.

On Thursday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Simons has joined RB Leipzig on a permanent transfer from Paris Saint-Germain. The deal is worth a total of €80 million, including add-ons, with an initial fee of €55 million and a sell-on clause.

Romano also noted that Simons’ contract runs until June 2027, but he could be on the move again as early as this summer, with several clubs already keeping an eye on him.

On Friday, PSG manager Luis Enrique discussed Simons’ sale as the club moves on from the saga, though they still have a vested interest in his future with a percentage of any future transfer.

“I knew him, that’s the transfer market,” Enrique said (h/t Paris Fans). “It’s a question for the sporting management. I’m in daily contact with Luis Campos. That’s the solution that was found. The player makes his decisions. There are consequences.”
