Luis Diaz has credited Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah for helping him grow as a player since arriving at Anfield.
Diaz made the switch from Porto in January 2022 but faced the daunting prospect of trying to force his way into one of the most famous forward lines in Premier League history. The trio of Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino helped elevate Jurgen Klopp's tenure to another level, but rather than fear the competition, the three players all did what they could to help Diaz adapt.
Now thriving in Arne Slot's iteration of the Reds, Diaz opened up on just how impactful Salah, Firmino and Mane were on his early months at the club.
"I remember during my first year here Liverpool's front three was Bobby, Sadio and Mo Salah," he told Sports Illustrated. "You obviously learn so much. These are players that even though they've won everything, they still try to teach you. 'You can improve here,' or 'Take your shot like this.' Those small details make all the difference and of course you still need to work on that on the pitch.
"There are many ways to work on it and improve your finishing, how to reach the goal better, and all of those small things that make a lot of sense."
Diaz went on to group Salah alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar as players who inspire his game today.
"My idol and someone I've always loved watching is Leo Messi, because I grew up seeing him play," Diaz continued. "Neymar, too - an incredible player. I grew up watching him a lot, trying to imitate him in many things.
"And the third player would be Mo. Incredible. He's a machine. He has a great mentality. You know something will happen when he has the ball, he will either get an assist or score a goal in any game, and he has that mentality that in the next game, he will score a couple more. These are the players that help you grow and you enjoy watching them."
