Young Moroccan midfielder shines from the start and propels Lille into Ligue 1's top 3
LOSC & Hamza Igamane vs Lorient
Hamza Igamane made a dream debut for LOSC on Saturday, August 30 at the Stade du Moustoir. Coming on at halftime, the new Moroccan striker for Lille netted a brace that helped the Dogues secure a crushing victory over Lorient (1-7).
Hamza Igamane had only taken part in one training session with his new teammates before stepping onto the Lorient pitch. Yet, the former Rangers player immediately showcased his technical skills in tight spaces. Bruno Genesio chose to bring him on after the break to cover for Olivier Giroud, who was ruled out at the last minute due to injury.
The Lille tactician made the right call. His team, locked at 0-0 at halftime under pouring rain, completely transformed after the break. Perraud opened the scoring for Lille in the 46th minute, and Fernandez-Pardo doubled the lead in the 53rd after a team move involving Igamane and Correia. Lorient tried to respond and managed to pull one back through Tosin in the 64th minute.
After a Kouassi mistake in the 77th minute, Fernandez-Pardo capitalized on the poor clearance to grab his own brace. From then on, Lille ran rampant. Hamza Igamane (80' and 90+3'), Haraldsson (87'), and Sahraoui (90+5') rounded off a dominant team display.
The LOSC manager did not hide his satisfaction after the performance. He highlighted his new signing's technical qualities and his ability to operate in tight spaces.
"I chose to bring him on at halftime; I thought that, given how little space we had to attack, he could really help us. Because he's a very technical player, very skilled in small areas. For a first outing, it's fantastic for him. It will give him confidence, and it gives confidence to the whole team," said the Lille coach.
