Liverpool will look to continue their title charge when the Reds take on Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
Arne Slot’s side head to St James’ Park with a nine-point lead in the Premier League title race, having beaten reigning champions Manchester City at Anfield at the weekend.
The Merseysiders have won 18 of their first 20 games in all competitions under Slot, in a dream start to the Dutchman’s tenure. After beating Real Madrid and Manchester City in the same week, Liverpool now face testing trips to Newcastle and Everton in the coming days. Two more wins will underline their credentials as potential champions this season.
Liverpool will be without Ibrahima Konate until the New Year with the Frenchman facing several weeks on the sidelines with a knee issue. Joe Gomez replaced Konate at the weekend and should keep his place after helping the Reds to a clean sheet.
Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones could also come back into the team, with Cody Gakpo or Luis Diaz and Dominik Szoboszlai the likely men to make way as Liverpool freshen up.
Harvey Elliott’s return from the bench was another positive from the win over Manchester City, while Federico Chiesa and Alisson Becker have also returned to first-team training. Slot faces a decision on whether to recall the latter with Caoimhin Kelleher in fine form. The Liverpool boss did say this week that he expects to have Alisson in goal before the end of the month, with the Brazilian remaining first-choice.
Diogo Jota, who celebrates his 28th birthday today, remains out.
Liverpool: Kelleher; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Jones, Gakpo; Nunez.
Newcastle United host Liverpool in the Premier League on Wednesday 4th December 2024. Kick-off at St James’ Park is 19:30 GMT.
